Standard Title
Generalized E-Commerce Retailer Fulfillment Test
Overview for ISTA 3L E-Commerce Retailer Test:
ISTA 3L E-Commerce Retailer Test simulates the conditions experienced when online product orders, fulfilled by retail corporations such as Amazon, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Costco, The Home Depot, and more, are shipped directly to consumers.
Rationale for ISTA 3L E-Commerce Retailer Test:
The ISTA 3L E-Commerce Retailer Test was developed by the ISTA Council to enhance the testing process for items shipped directly to the consumer. The test itself was created by combining other relevant testing standards, data from laboratories, and industry feedback from retailer fulfillment locations. It should be noted that this test method was developed with a certain goal for a new industry standard. By utilizing all data from parties involved, the ISTA was able to produce a “more perfect” protocol that better accounts for the typical supply chain conditions generally faced across today’s major e-commerce retailers.” According to Eric Hiser, ISTA Vice President of Standards and Certification, “This massive shift in the retail supply chain journey means that companies need to do more to ensure a positive experience for the end customer. Product damage during the shipping process ultimately impacts brand perception, sustainability efforts and the bottom line.” (https://ista.org/ista3l.php)
